This is the spectacular Fleurieu Peninsula… late on an autumn afternoon.
The superb clear sun light is brightly reflected off the sharp, angular folds of the upper cliffs and the breathtaking horizontal layers of the ochre coloured lower cliffs….both contrasted against the brilliant blues of the sky and seascape.
There is a more immediate visual experience with this painting …not just the beautiful colours, shadows and reflections but there is a greater visual containment and a strong awareness of the foreground height. It is a ‘here and now’ experience’.
The bay is “monumental” with the imposing, mesmerising cliffs and there is a strong sense of the dramatic….the strong horizontal angular elements capturing the visual qualities of the cliffs and the sharply undulating landscape.
