River Red Gum on Cullyamurra Water Hole at Innamincka

The River Red Gum must be one of the best known and admired trees in the Australian landscape…

Cullyamurra Waterhole on the Cooper Creek near Innamincka in South Australia’s far north east, is Australia’s largest permanent billabong at 7kms long and a staggering 28 meters deep.

It is alive with wildlife, is a birdwatchers paradise and the red gum trees that line the banks are an absolute delight – they are big trees and have their own distinct appearance with an almost white bark and a propensity to spread broadly.

The colours are so surprising in this red region!
