The wonderful colours of the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges as they fold their way around and into the sea are delightfully reflected in the Myponga River as it too winds its way into the sea. The mid-morning blue of the superb Australian summer sky is strongly reflected in the Myponga River at low tide.
I have found that when I surround one color with a contrasting colour, the internal color changes brightness or hue. The eye can interpret the internal color differently depending on the view.
In this case the strong blue of the sky and the range of blues re ected in the river, provide an apparent visual change in the colour of the hills… from a subtle and elegant beige to a beautiful brown golden landscape that seems to accentuate the deep purple shadows in the centre of the painting. This confjguration brings harmony to both the canvas and the landscape.
