Each of the five parts of this landscape is a smaller landscape within the bigger image. The predominant, golden, late autumn afternoon light enhances each of those images.
There are so many shades and varieties of tone in this painting that show clearly the Australian landscapes subtle, harmonious and varied colours….there is nothing monotonous about this landscape.
The gate seems to invite us to explore and look at what is beyond; but it is the strong light on the trees closest to us and that lovey golden light within the shadows that tells not only of what lies before us but also what mystery our imagination might lead us to enjoy.
This is an Australian landscape!
